It doesn’t appear there is a way to change the keyboard layout in Xfce using the GUI (e.g., the default desktop environment in ArcoLinux), but it is possible as described here. Though it isn’t permanent, so it must be done for every session.
Introduction
In the control panel “Keyboard” new keyboard layouts can be added. But there doesn’t appear to be a way to select the default layout or change the current layout.
Open the panel: Ctrl + Esc → Applications → “Settings” → “Keyboard” → tab “Layout”
A solution
It is possible to change the current layout using the GUI panel. It is very unintuitive, but it is:
- Select the first layout (presuming this is the layout that is to be active) by clicking on it.
- Move the layout down by clicking on the down arrow.
- Move the layout back up by clicking on the up arrow
- Now the keyboard layout has changed!
But note that this change is not remembered across system restarts, so it must be repeated for every session.
